For the past six months, she has been living with her aunt due to her mother’s mental health struggles, a separation that has been confusing and difficult for her to understand. Although her aunt provides love and support, the sudden shift in caregivers has disrupted Destinee’s sense of security and routine. She worries about her mother and often feels uncertain about when life will return to normal. The family’s financial strain adds additional stress, especially since her aunt is disabled and unable to provide extras like Christmas gifts. These challenges leave Destinee trying to cope with feelings of loss, worry, and unpredictability at a very young age. Despite everything, she continues to stay engaged in school and remains hopeful, showing resilience in the face of adversity.
