Noemelli came to the United States four years ago with her mother and two younger brothers, while her father remained in the Dominican Republic. Since arriving, her family has faced significant challenges as they adjusted to life in a new country. Despite these obstacles, Noemelli’s mother has shown incredible determination, working two jobs—during the day as a CNA and in the evenings as a business office cleaner. Noemelli has played a critical role in supporting her family, caring for her younger siblings each evening, which has limited her ability to participate in extracurricular activities. Still, she has remained committed to her education, enrolling in online English courses and working diligently to improve her language skills.

Noemelli needs a computer to keep up with her studies since she’s currently using the school’s computer. Once high school wraps up, she won’t have a way to continue her online English classes or the courses she plans to take at her local college. This fall, she’ll start college with both in-person and online classes, which will help her balance supporting her family and continuing her education. Having her own computer is really important for her to stay on track with her work while managing her responsibilities at home.
