A Guardian bike for Axel who has trouble balancing
Axel, 6 years old, ME
Wish submitted by:
Adoptive & Foster Families of Maine, Inc.Axel loves playing outside, especially jumping in mud puddles and exploring the woods. He and his family have created a special area that he calls his “magic forest,” where he has built stick towers and made paths lined with rocks. He also enjoys playing with magnetic blocks, spending time each day arranging them into neat, color-sorted rows. Axel has strong math skills and likes to quiz others, often impressing people with his knowledge. Although Axel has been diagnosed with autism, those who know him describe him as bright, focused on his interests, and determined. While he may have difficulty with social interactions, he has a strong desire to play with peers his age.
Axel loves to be outside. He has autism and balance troubles that limit his ability to ride a traditional bike with training wheels. He desperately wants to ride a bicycle and has outgrown his balance bike. He has worked with PT and OT, and could use a Guardian Bike to continue to learn to ride. They are specifically designed with a lower center of gravity and a longer wheelbase for improved balance and control - but that comes with a higher price tag.
