Kayla is shy at first, but once she feels comfortable with someone, she starts to open up and smile. She enjoys art, listening to rock music, and petting her cats. Kayla also enjoys school, where she is recognized for her good grades. Raised by her loving grandmother, who describes Kayla as her hope during difficult times, she is cherished deeply.

Kayla is currently staying with another family because her grandmother recently had hip surgery and will be back home within a couple of weeks. During this time, she signed up for volleyball and is eager to reconnect with the sport, as she hasn't been able to play due to her grandmother's injury. This opportunity has been a beacon of light for Kayla, who has been feeling somewhat depressed and has not had much to look forward to. Although Kayla will need to find rides to volleyball practice, she is really looking forward to reconnecting with friends and possibly making new ones. She has been experiencing one challenging situation after another, and each positive experience helps boost her self-esteem. To participate in volleyball, Kayla needs specific shoes, which are mandatory. She is currently borrowing a pair from a friend, but they are one size too big and in very poor condition.
