A bike for Tate to have fun and feel independent
Tate, 13 years old, KS

SparkWheelTate is a strong and resilient kid who has already faced more challenges than most his age. After being removed from his mother’s care, he was placed with his dad, who is working hard to rebuild his life after prison and provide the best he can. Despite the instability he’s lived through, Tate shows up each day with determination, working closely with his teachers to improve his behavior and learn how to better regulate his emotions. What makes Tate special is his heart—he’s kind, hardworking, and keeps trying even on the tough days. His story is one of courage, growth, and a belief that things can get better.
Tate would really love to have a bike! A bike is a great gift for a teenage boy—not just for fun, but also because it makes life easier. First, it gives him independence. He won’t always need rides from others; he can easily get to his friends’ houses, school events, or even a part-time job by himself. That sense of freedom is important at that age. Riding a bike is also good for his health, but it doesn’t feel like exercise. It helps build strength in his legs and improves his fitness in a fun way, so he’s more likely to ride it regularly. Mentally, biking is a good way to clear his head. Teens face a lot of pressure and worry, and riding can help them relax much better than just sitting around or scrolling on their phones. Plus, bikes are social! They make it easy to hang out with friends and explore without needing money or a specific plan. Some great memories come from random bike rides with buddies. Plus, it gets him off screens without forcing it—there’s simply something more enjoyable to do!
