San Diego Youth ServicesJay is a sweet and polite person who brings a lot of energy and positivity wherever he goes. He has a kind personality and enjoys connecting with others through his fun-loving spirit and unique interests. Despite facing challenges throughout his life, Jay continues to move forward with resilience and optimism. Jay entered foster care at a very young age and has grown up navigating many transitions. Although his support system is small, the connections he does have are very meaningful to him. Jay is especially close to his younger brother and values the relationship they share, even though they are currently placed in different homes due to Jay needing specific accommodations and support services. He also has a few close friends who provide encouragement. After graduation, he plans to enter a Transitional Independent Living Skills (ILS) program, where he will receive support with independent living skills and job readiness training as he prepares for adulthood and greater independence. In his free time, Jay enjoys watching animation and playing with RC cars with his friends. These hobbies bring him joy, allow him to relax, and give him a positive outlet for his energy and creativity.
Jay is getting ready to graduate from high school, which is a huge and exciting milestone for him. This achievement reflects years of hard work, growth, and determination. Due to his disabilities, school has presented many challenges, but Jay continued to work hard and persevere. Graduating means so much to him because he has had to work twice as hard as many of his peers to reach this goal. As Jay prepares for adulthood, he knows there may be additional challenges ahead, including communication difficulties, understanding social situations, maintaining independence, employment opportunities, and building long-term relationships. Changes in routine and managing everyday responsibilities can also be difficult for him. Even with these obstacles, Jay continues to show resilience and determination. He is proud of how far he has come and is excited to begin an Independent Living Skills program after graduation. To celebrate this important milestone, Jay is hoping for an RC car. He has always enjoyed RC cars but has never had one of his own. In the past, he has only been able to use them while spending time with friends. Having his own RC car would bring him a lot of joy and give him something fun to enjoy in his free time. For Jay, this is more than just a toy. It is a way for him to connect with friends, feel included, and build confidence as he celebrates this major accomplishment in his life.
