Jamani knows what it feels like to move from place to place, carrying her belongings in bags and never knowing what came next. Growing up in foster care meant stability was never guaranteed, but she never let her circumstances define her future. Through the Roots and Wings program, Jamani found the support, guidance, and stable housing she needed while transitioning out of foster care and into adulthood. Even with the challenges that often come after foster care, Jamani stayed focused on her goals. She worked hard through college, overcoming financial stress, exhaustion, and difficult moments along the way. Her dedication paid off when she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education. Today, Jamani is thriving as a full-time chemistry teacher at West Orange High School, where she encourages and inspires students every day. She recently moved into her own apartment, another major milestone she worked incredibly hard to achieve. Jamani’s story is a powerful example of resilience, determination, and what is possible with support and perseverance.

Jamani is an incredible example of perseverance, resilience, and determination. Despite the challenges that often come with aging out of the foster care system, she stayed focused on her goals and continued pushing forward through every obstacle placed in front of her. Through hard work and dedication, Jamani earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education. Today, she is proudly working full-time as a Chemistry Teacher at West Orange High School and recently moved into her own apartment — a huge milestone and a well-deserved fresh start. As Jamani continues building her life and career, she is working hard to turn her apartment into a comfortable home of her own. Right now, one of her biggest needs is a bed frame and mattress set. Having a proper bed would provide her with comfort, stability, and a place to truly rest after long days spent teaching and supporting her students.
