Miguel did not have an easy childhood. His father left the country when he was two, leaving his grandmother and mom to be his caregivers. At times, he said it felt like his grandmother was more of a mom than his biological mom. His home life made it difficult for him to make friends or attend events because he would shut himself in. As time passes, his mom and grandma continued to do their best but still struggled. His aunt saw these struggles and knew something had to change so she ultimately decided to take him under her wing through the ward of the court. To this day, he has never taken this for granted as she has supported him through high school, college and adulthood. As of now, he is current enrolled at SJSU and majoring in Computer Engineering, and it's all thanks to her.

Miguel is currently enrolled at SJSU as a computer engineering major. Miguel was granted the Middle Class scholarship and after communicating with the financial aid office, he was under the impression that he was able to keep the financial aid. However, he recently found out the school overpaid him and they are now asking for the money back. This is a common problem with the middle class scholarship and students are frequently asked to return the money the schools mistakenly give them. Miguel has been in contact with the financial aid office, Bursar's office, and many other organizations on campus but unfortunately, they are unable to help and the school has the right to ask for the overpaid balance back or else the students will be dropped from their classes. Unfortunately, Miguel does not have the funds to pay back the balance currently, which is why he is reaching out. If the balance remains unpaid, he will be dropped from his classes for Fall 2026 and will not be able to enroll until the full balance is paid.
