The National Youth Advocate ProgramAmari is a resilient and determined young man who has already had to overcome many challenges. Throughout his childhood, he has experienced several transitions and uncertainties, but he has continued to demonstrate incredible strength, perseverance, and a willingness to keep moving forward. Amari has lived in both a group home setting and several foster homes. Each transition brought its own challenges, yet he continued to adapt and grow. Amari recently moved into a new foster home that he proudly describes as the first place that “finally feels like a family.” This sense of belonging, stability, and support has made a tremendous impact on him. He is building meaningful relationships, gaining confidence, and allowing himself to look ahead with excitement and hope for what the future may bring. After years of uncertainty, he is finally able to focus on being a teenager and pursuing his own goals.
Amari values being active and has participated in many extracurricular activities, including the Boys & Girls Club and sports, which have helped him develop teamwork, discipline, and friendships. Unfortunately, while playing football, Amari tore his ACL and has since been on an extensive rehabilitation plan. Since sports mean so much to him, this recovery has been especially hard. Throughout his recovery, transportation has been difficult, especially as Amari tries to take the next proper steps toward adulthood. For his birthday, his team would like to surprise Amari with an eBike to make transportation easier and remind him that despite the challenges he has faced, his independence and next steps are supported by a caring community. It would allow him to travel to school more easily, explore and become familiar with his new neighborhood, participate in activities, and eventually commute to a part-time job. More than just a means of transportation, this bike would represent trust, freedom, and an opportunity for him to continue building confidence and self-sufficiency.
