Deja is a smart young lady who loves sewing and creating new things. She has enrolled in extra classes outside of school just to practice! Deja also loves to run track. Deja has been in foster care since 2021 and has used that time to process everything that has happened to her and work toward a better life for herself.

Deja taught herself to sew, piece by piece, with big dreams of opening her own store one day. This year, that self-taught skill will be put to the test in the most personal way yet: she's making her own junior prom dress from scratch, choosing every detail herself rather than buying something off the rack. To pull it off, she needs fabric, buttons, ribbons, and sewing clips- the exact materials required to cut, construct, and finish a dress entirely of her own design. It's a real test of the skills she's spent time building on her own, and getting it right would mean walking into prom wearing something no one else has, something she made with her own two hands.
