College tuition installment for Ashley who wants to beat the odds

Posted Aug 28, 2017
Ashley is a young woman who entered foster care when she was 8. It has not been an easy road for her, but she has managed to make it to college. She is responsible for paying her own way. There was, unfortunately, a mix up in financial aid and she is a few hundred dollars short for this first semester. She has already lined up a job to make up the difference going forward; however, she has an installment payment due immediately before she can earn enough money. Only about 6% of kids in foster care graduate from college. This is Ashley's chance. Please consider helping. She is smart and focused and has a shot at making it.

Ashley is 25 years old and lives in NJ

Ashley is an 18 year old young woman who will be the first woman in her family to go to college. She entered into foster care at age 8 and the one dream that has kept her on a good path is the chance to go to college someday. She has been accepted to her first choice school and will be starting the road to her dream!

The Wish Story

One Simple Wish posts the wish to the website.

Cheryl grants the wish for Ashley! Thanks Cheryl.

"Ashley, my hope for you is to make the most of your college opportunity. As I tell my own children (2of which are in college and one in high school), you get one chance on the merry go round called life. Make sure it is a great one! Work hard and stay focused! A family in CT is rooting for you to succeed!!"

One Simple Wish sends the gift to the CASA of Monmouth County - Eatontown, NJ for Ashley.

"To the Generous Donors, I am Ashley’s Court Appointed Special Advocate, CASA, and I want to thank you for your generous donation. When I first started as a CASA, I was horrified by the statistics for teenagers in foster care. The outcomes are seldom positive. I did not choose to be an advocate to a teenager. A baby or toddler would have been more fun, but not more rewarding. I truly was not sure Ashley was even going to make it out of high school. She is smart enough, but the uncertainty of her situation took its toll. For the first time in five years, she is hopeful. She sees a future for herself. The mix up with financial aid was very distressing, as you can imagine. Ashely is hard working and has a job lined up so she can make subsequent payments, but the first one was going to be tricky. You have helped to lighten her load and heart. The best part about being a CASA is finding so many people who are willing to help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Ellen (aka Ashley’s CASA)"
