Summertime Toy for Foster Children Visiting Their Birth Families

Comfort Cottage, 9 years old

Wish submitted by:

Salvation Army Children's Services: Foster Care & Adoption

The Comfort Cottage is a place where children in foster care have visits with their birth families in a home-like atmosphere. Before the Cottage was established, visits were taking place in windowless and dreary rooms in an office building. Now families visit in a little house, in brightly painted rooms with very nice toys and lots of sunshine and space. There is even a full bathroom for parents who would like to bathe their infants, a kitchen for parents to make lunch for their children, and a yard with a playhouse. Meeting in the Comfort Cottage allows children and their birth parents to have quality visits.

Children who are in foster care come to the Comfort Cottage to have their supervised visits with their birth families. These visits are essential to helping to restore families, heal children, and encourage healthy parenting skills. Toys and play are an ideal way for parents and children to interact and communicate. The Comfort Cottage is asking for help in getting a new water table hat will be extra special for outdoor visits on warm summer days.
