A Game System for Derrick who wants to be a Judge

Posted Nov 17, 2019
Derrick is asking for a Play station this Christmas. He has just started his freshman year of high school. He was accepted into a technical school and is majoring in in their law and public safety career track to start his journey to becoming a judge. Derrick recently has been struggling with being away from his family. He would like to be able to connect with his brothers, who are all in different foster homes across the state. They all enjoy playing video games so a console would allow them to play together, even though they only get to see each other once a month.

Derrick is 20 years old and lives in NJ

Derrick is a very smart and outgoing young man who loves to do outdoor activities and spend time with family. He has been in foster care since 2014. When he first entered he had severe behavioral problems including poor boundaries, limited social skills, defiant behaviors, lack of respect for authority figures and lack motivation to make progress. Since then, Derrick has made significant improvements. He went from failing all subjects in school to being on honor roll. He participates in therapy and shows motivation to make positive choices in his life. One day he would like to become a judge so that he can help other children in foster care be heard. His current hobbies are shopping, traveling and helping out outside.
