A laptop for Andrew to take to college in September

Posted Aug 9, 2021
Andrew would like a laptop in order to start school in September. Having a laptop of his own will provide Andrew with a sense of normalcy among his peers, it will also allow him to travel from home to school with the laptop as needed for school tasks and assignments. Andrew has had challenges as a child that he would like to overcome by obtaining his goals of successfully completing college and obtaining a career.

Andrew is 22 years old and lives in NJ

Andrew and his family became known to the Division in January 2012. A referral was called in regarding medical concerns for two of Andrew’s youngest siblings. Andrew is one of 10 siblings who resided with their mother and father. The referral led to the children’s removal due to medical neglect. Numerous referrals were called in to DCP&P with concerns regarding child neglect, and lack of housing. Andrew’s biological parents struggled with substance abuse and mental health concerns. In December 2012, DCP&P requested custody of Andrew and the remaining children. The Division was granted custody. The children were split up between family and resource care. Andrew and his siblings spent the next 7 years split up between households. Andrew spent this time being reunified with his parents, removed again and placed again with his parents. In 2019, the last removal took place when the children were removed from the home due to father’s suicide by hanging. It is reported Andrew is the one who found his father in the home when the incident took place. This incident took place a week before Andrew’s 17th birthday. Despite Andrew’s history, he has shown resilience and strength. He participated in services to address any mental health concerns. Andrew is respectful of others and does not exhibit any behavioral concerns. He enjoys playing video games and hanging with friends. Andrew currently resides with most of siblings in resource care. He visits regularly with his siblings who do not reside in his home. Andrew is smart and goal oriented. After graduating high school last June, he immediately looked for work. Andrew complies with DCP&P and related services on a monthly basis. Andrew has completed his summer goals of obtaining a job and registering for college. He will be attending Ocean County College in September 2021.
