Derik is a fun, energetic typical young boy. He has jumped around from foster care to kinship care and hasn't had a lot of consistency in his life, but he is always looking ahead and has a positive outlook on his future. He is working on graduating high school and is planning on attending a trade school. Derik enjoys working with his hands and hopes to find a well paying job once he completes his certifications. He enjoys hanging out with his friends and is always trying new activities to keep himself focused and on track.

Derik is so excited about getting a Nintendo Switch. He is a gamer and loves to play with his friends and uses it as a way to stay in touch. He is really wanting this awesome Mario game, it is on his Christmas list and he would love to have it by then if possible. It has a super awesome controller, it also allows you to play anywhere on anything whether it be the Switch, the tv or computer. It is not in his budget and he would so appreciate this gift to play one on one with his best friend out of state.
