Alexa came into care as a baby due to her mother's substance abuse. She was placed with a permanent guardian, who unfortunately passed away. Alexa was then placed with a relative who put her at risk by exposing her to one of her parents, which led to physical abuse as a pre-teen. Since Alexa has come back into care, her parents' rights have been terminated. Although she is available for adoption and has family members, no one has been willing or able to keep her in their care. She is behind in school because she had been on runaway status for the majority of a year. Her runaway incident occurred after several failed placements. Prior to running, Alexa was a consistent A student and made the honor roll. She also participated in volley ball. She wants to be a pediatrician and has the intelligence and resourcefulness to do it! She wants to graduate in May with her class. To accomplish this, she is enrolling in extra classes that are web-based and require a laptop. She is doing this all while holding down a part-time job.
