Zyairah, 18 years old, NJ
Zyairah once struggled academically and faced real doubts about her ability to succeed in school. With encouragement and accountability from the people who believed in her, including her Aunt and Great-Aunt, she set a goal to raise her GPA and worked hard to get there. Along the way, she learned to advocate for herself and discovered that asking for help was a strength. She sought out support from teachers and mentors and worked consistently to turn things around. During her senior year, she pushed herself further than she once thought possible, becoming Vice President of her student council and captain of her dance team, while also pursuing scholarships to help make college possible. Her family isn't able to cover the full cost of her education, but Zyairah remains determined, continuing to search for scholarships and planning to work to close the gap. She has overcome academic challenges, learned to advocate for herself, stepped into leadership, and stayed determined even when college felt out of reach. Though reserved at first, Zyairah radiates confidence once she starts talking with you. She loves dance and cheer, cheering for three teams at once, and is excited to pursue her college education, hopefully majoring in psychology.
