Leigh-anna, 26 years old, NY
Leigh-Anna entered foster care during her teenage years and experienced multiple placements. Fortunately, she found a family friend who became her foster parent, providing her with a supportive and welcoming environment. After graduating high school, Leigh-Anna was determined to start her life as an independent young adult. However, like many young people aging out of foster care during the pandemic, she faced homelessness. The support from children's services was limited, prompting her to find a job and support herself. Currently, Leigh-Anna is enrolled in the CUNY School of Law, pursuing her master's degree. She is passionate about advocating for youth aging out of foster care and for migrant families. Leigh-Anna works as a paralegal for Mobilization for Justice and has accepted an unpaid internship at the San Diego office of the Public Defender. She also serves on CASA's Youth Advisory Board, where she advocates for young adults transitioning out of foster care and seeks policy changes to improve their experiences.
