Rico, 7 years old, OR

Rico is currently in a kinship placement with his grandparents, who have stepped in to give him a safe, loving home filled with stability and care. Life with them is a mix of structure and heart—his grandpa teaches him little lessons about fixing things around the house, while his grandma always makes sure there’s something good cooking in the kitchen. Though the journey hasn’t always been easy, Rico’s resilience shines through. His grandparents say he’s got a heart as big as his imagination and a laugh that fills the room. What Rico loves most is being surrounded by family, especially his cousins. Whether they’re playing tag in the yard, racing bikes down the sidewalk, or just hanging out under the trees, those moments bring him the most joy. He’s happiest outside, where he can run free, explore, and soak up the world around him. Nature feels like his playground, and he says it helps him think and dream. Rico is the kind of kid who finds adventure in the little things—digging for worms, building forts, or just laying in the grass imagining what life will look like when he’s older. Through everything, his love for family and the outdoors keeps him grounded and growing.
