Michael, 18 years old, FL

Michael's family faced challenges with homelessness and drug addiction during his early childhood, leading to him entering foster care at just 7 years old. He moved in and out of the system across two different states and has been separated from his siblings for years without any visits. Michael's journey has taken him through numerous foster care homes and group homes, but he is now ready to age out of the system. Last year, he was transferred to a new group home, which meant another change in city, school, and friends. However, he feels he has finally found the right place to call home. Michael has become a role model for the other boys in the home, who see him as a big brother. Despite the hardships he has faced, basketball has always been his passion. It serves as his solace and therapy, and has even helped him form new friendships. He enjoys sharing his basketball skills with the other children in the home and at camp.
