Desi is a former foster youth who aged out of care in 2019 after entering the system at age 12. Since that time, she has faced periods of homelessness while striving for independence and pursuing her goals. Desi describes herself as a determined hard worker who believes everything happens for a reason. Despite challenges like housing instability and lack of transportation, she has recently secured stable housing through AcademySTAY, opening new doors for her future. She is currently working toward her cosmetology license, with ambitions to obtain steady employment, complete her education, get her driver's license, and secure consistent healthcare access. Additionally, Desi is keen on developing financial literacy and money management skills, which she didn't have the opportunity to learn in foster care. With a stable foundation in place, she is ready to invest in herself and work toward the independent life she deserves.
