Nalleli has been in foster care for several years, coming to the attention of the Department of Children and Family Services when she was just 5 years old. Throughout her time in the system, she faced significant challenges, including neglect and physical abuse, and she adjusted to nine different placements, each with its own culture and personalities. Recently, Nalleli's application for the Supervised Independent Living Program (SILP) was finally approved, and she is now living in a SILP-approved home. Nalleli has struggled with the separation from both of her parents. Currently, her mother lives in another state, and her father resides in another country. She has four siblings who also face issues with separation and the loss of family connections, culture, and holiday celebrations. At this moment, Nalleli does not have contact with her parents or three of her brothers. However, she maintains a connection with her 22-year-old sister, who is her only source of family support.
