Kennedi, 13 years old, TX
Kennedi has shown quiet strength and resilience through many difficult experiences at a young age. Because of abuse and trauma in her home, she and her older sister were removed from their mother’s care and placed in foster care. Kennedi has moved through several placements, which has meant adjusting to many new environments and ongoing uncertainty. One of the hardest parts for her has been being separated from her sister, who has been a steady source of love and comfort. Kennedi is now beginning a new chapter living with her paternal aunt. While this adjustment has been challenging, she continues to show courage and grace. She is thoughtful, intelligent, and kind. She enjoys playing volleyball, which helps her relieve stress and feel more confident, and she also finds comfort in reading spiritual and mindfulness books. One of her favorite authors is Kathleen Glasgow, whose writing connects with her experiences and emotions. As she continues to heal and adjust to life in foster care, Kennedi remains hopeful about her future. She is working toward feeling seen, valued, and heard, and she continues to focus on healing, self-discovery, and building a brighter future.
