Jenna, 20 years old, WA
Jenna is currently attending school to become a cosmetologist, pursuing a dream that began during her teenage years while living in group homes. Like many youth in foster care, Jenna experienced periods of uncertainty and boredom, and she found an unexpected outlet through hairstyling. What started as a way to pass the time soon became something much more meaningful. She began doing the hair of other girls in the group homes, experimenting with different styles and helping them feel confident and cared for. Seeing the smiles on their faces sparked a passion that has stayed with her ever since. Over the years, Jenna's love for cosmetology continued to grow, and she is now working hard to turn that passion into a career. Her ultimate goal is to open her own salon where she can not only provide professional hair services but also give back to youth who share similar experiences. Jenna dreams of offering free haircuts and styling services to children in foster care, helping them feel confident, valued, and special. She understands firsthand how much a simple act of kindness can mean to a young person, and she hopes her future salon will be a place where everyone feels welcomed, empowered, and beautiful.
