With over ten years in foster, Sonja has endured more than any child should ever have to bear. Her father passed away from an overdose, and her mother went missing and has never been heard from since. Sonja bounced between several foster placements, and at age 12, she thought she had found her forever home. Tragically, Sonja ended up being physically abused in that home, and thus, her foster care journey continued. Sonja lived in a very supportive treatment home throughout her high school years. When she graduated high school, she applied to community colleges to continue her education, determined to put her life on a better course.
