Theo, 6 years old, VA
Theo is a bright, bouncy boy who loves racing his bike up and down the sidewalk, filling pages with drawings of his favorite video game characters, and talking anyone’s ear off about the level he finally beat. Behind the grin is a little boy who has already learned to pack his belongings quickly, having moved between homes and said goodbye to people he’d only just begun to love. Theo asks, more often than a six-year-old should, “Is this where I get to stay?” His foster family answers with patience every time, though he still checks that his bike is by the door and his soccer ball is within reach, just in case. He refuses to leave his soccer ball behind, tucking it under his arm at the front door, the dinner table, and sometimes even the bathtub. He draws pictures for everyone he meets, a small way of saying “please remember me.” Theo deserves the chance to stop wondering and simply be a kid, with a home that stays and people who stay with him.
