A sewing machine for Alyssa to develop her passion

Posted Jun 9, 2023
Alyssa is a 17 year old with a severe traumatic past who is getting close to aging out of foster care. While in our program, she has worked with an advocate/mentor who has taught her how to sew, and she fell in love with it. Alyssa's foster mom works from home and is struggling with having Alyssa respect boundaries around work because she is bored. Alyssa is doing an internship with our supported work program, however she is still at home a good amount of time now that school is out. A sewing machine would help Alyssa continue to develop her passion, while also giving foster mom some respite.

Alyssa is 17 years old and lives in CO

Alyssa is a 17 year old trooper who has endured a very traumatic past. She is very dedicated to her own growth and advocates for herself to do more trauma work in therapy, and to be able to attend life skill programs. Alyssa has worked hard on trying to be able to self-regulate, and has made the most progress out of an youth I personally know. She love SpongeBob, sewing, reading, and going on walks.
