Elena was emancipated from the foster care system at age 18 and immediately went to college to pursue her bachelor's degree. Shortly before the pandemic, she faced some life challenges that forced her to put a hold on her college career and begin working full-time. Elena is passionate about working with kids, and her dream is to become a pediatrician.

Elena recently moved into her new apartment on January 1st and is enjoying her new space and the peace it brings. Last year, she was trapped in a lease with hostile and dangerous roommates, and she lost a lot while moving out to find a safer environment. Now, in her comfortable new home, Elena feels secure, but she lacks the funds to buy the few furniture pieces she needs. A kitchen island would be a tremendous help for her, as it would make her small apartment more functional and versatile. With rolling wheels, she could easily move the island around her space as needed. It would serve multiple purposes: she could use it while cooking, as a table for guests, and even as a craft table when she wants to paint!
