Dashawn is asking for an Xbox because his mom's home was recently broken into, and all their valuables were stolen. This has put Dashawn in a difficult emotional situation. His mom is also struggling, and coping with the aftermath of the break-in has been overwhelming for both of them. A new Xbox would brighten Dashawn’s day and provide him with an opportunity to reconnect with his friends online.
