Strength Based Community Change (SBCC)Kayla entered the foster care system at the age of 14. At the time, she was struggling deeply—with anger, self-hate, and a lack of trust in those around her. She often skipped school and went AWOL, eventually getting involved in frequent fights that led to time in juvenile hall, where she served 15 months. After her release, she returned home for a short time before being kicked out again. From there, she entered the Independent Living Program (ILP), determined to take back control of her life. One of her greatest strengths is her perseverance. No matter the challenges she faces, she refuses to give up. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, reading, listening to music, and spending time with her child. What sets her apart is the path she’s walked and the strength she’s gained from it. Despite a rough start, she has transformed her life and stayed true to a caring and hardworking spirit. She recently completed her CNA classes and is now preparing to pursue her LVN license.
Kayla is in nursing school and would benefit from having a new computer. By using a laptop, she can avoid carrying multiple heavy textbooks and instead download her course materials. This would help her take notes and record lectures, making studying and completing assignments much easier and more efficient.
