Strength Based Community Change (SBCC)Sy is a determined and driven young man pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. Inspired by the time he spent working on cars with his grandfather (his “papa”), Sy discovered a passion for engineering and a deep respect for hard work. That same work ethic fuels him today, as he puts in nearly 80 hours a week at two summer jobs to help cover the cost of school beyond what his scholarships provide. Sy has also overcome significant personal challenges, including childhood obesity. Through relentless dedication, he transformed his lifestyle and became a strong, athletic young man. In his rare moments of free time, Sy enjoys working out, shooting hoops, making music on his computer, and playing video games. His story is one of resilience, perseverance, and purpose- and he’s just getting started.
Sy is a mechanical engineering major at Southern University A&M in Louisiana. Although he is excited about returning to school, he is now facing the challenges of upper-division classes in his field. He finds it difficult to complete his 3D visualization assignments on his small laptop screen. Connecting a computer monitor to his laptop would greatly improve his ability to work on projects for his machine design and coding classes.
