An ice machine to help Marcus ease his lockjaw
Marcus, 21 years old, CA

UC Riverside - Guardian Scholars ProgramMarcus entered the foster care system as a newborn and aged out without ever being adopted. Throughout his time as a foster youth, he changed homes frequently and nearly faced homelessness when he transitioned out of the system. He realized that his passion for education was the key to achieving the life he wanted, and he is now attending the University of California as a Psychology major. Marcus enjoys spending time in nature, working out, and playing video games. He also has a beloved cat named Kiwi. Marcus aspires to return to his community and help others who have had similar experiences as they navigate life's challenges. His vibrant energy positively impacts everyone around him.
Marcus has anemia and often experiences lockjaw. To help ease his muscle tension and prevent this issue, he chews on ice, but finding good ice can be a challenge. With a new Nugget ice machine, he wouldn't have to make daily trips to 7 Eleven and spend so much money. A machine would help him save cash and relieve his lockjaw more easily.
