She and her brother came into care due to significant concerns about their home conditions and their parents' failure to address the children's mental health needs. Maya is now residing in a placement where she can focus on her mental well-being. While in care, she is allowed only a limited number of items, including safe clothing that cannot be used to harm herself as she works on her recovery. Maya enjoys perfume, drawing, and staying active.
