Imani was placed in foster care along with her three younger siblings. However, due to her age, she was separated from them and placed in a group home. Although Imani dislikes being away from her siblings, she remains focused on accomplishing her educational goals and aspires to become a teacher one day.

Imani recently moved into her Independent Living apartment. She works part-time and attends college, studying to become a teacher. Imani was receiving some assistance with food, but when the government shut down, her benefits stopped. She reached out and asked for help in purchasing healthy food. Imani has been going to the local food banks for assistance. Helping foster kids over 18 with food and shelter is crucial because they lack the family support that most young adults receive and face a higher risk of homelessness, unemployment, and incarceration. Providing these resources helps them develop life skills, find stability, and become successful members of the community.
