Homes for Children CorporationDarrien is the eldest child of 3 in the household. He has struggled with the new experiences of high school this year and learning to set a good example for his younger siblings. He has overcome bullying and found ways to express himself and build self-confidence to overcome these challenges and more. Not only does he stand up for himself he also stands up for others. His kindness and compassion for others have led him to the career choices of a veterinarian or chef. His passion in life is to feed into others' lives. Darrien has completed 3 college credits through TCC precollege HS program and participates in the AVID college prep course. He loves God and passionately works within his church and is a caring big brother. He also volunteers within his community. Darrien has gained experience and independence by working a part-time job, though he had a great desire to continue to work it proved to be more than he could handle at the time, but he is striving to gain employment again soon.
A new electric scooter would give Darrien the chance to move around more easily and help out wherever he’s needed. Having his own way to get around would support his growing independence and allow him to feel more confident in his daily routines. This year, he had two wishes, a scooter and a PS5, but he told his mother, “Mom, it’s okay if we don’t get anything this year again. We are okay.” His humility and understanding are what make this request even more meaningful. Receiving the scooter would give Darrien a sense of freedom, pride, and progress as he continues building toward greater independence. It would truly make a positive impact on both his confidence and his everyday life.
