An electric scooter with a seat so Tommy can ride to his neighborhood friends
Tommy, 9 years old, MO |

MO DSS Children's Division - Jackson CountyTommy is a very bright and bubbly child. Despite all the hardships he has faced, he continuously manages to have a smile on his face. Whenever his case worker comes to visit, he always asks to walk up and down the streets with them rather than meeting in his room. He loves to bring his dog out and chase him around the second he gets home from school. Tommy finds his joy in his friends who live near him. He has expressed that his friend’s parents are also like parental figures to him. Whenever he feels sad or overwhelmed, he has stated that these are safe people in his life. Tommy is not the type of child who wants to watch TV or play video games; he would rather play a game of football or soccer with whoever is willing to join him. Even if no one is willing to play with him, Tommy has his beloved dog that is always ready to participate, even if that means Tommy kicking him a ball, then having to chase him down for it back!
An electric scooter would be beneficial for Tommy. He has recently experienced a great deal of emotional trauma and intense family changes. Tommy has expressed to his ongoing case worker that walking around his neighborhood and to his neighborhood best friend’s home is one of his coping mechanisms. As the cold winter months have approached, Tommy can no longer simply walk the distance to his friends or enjoy the outdoors as he has done previously. During visits, an electric scooter has been all this child has talked about. As his family is facing financial hardship, this is the one item on his Christmas list.
