The Lost & Found Institute

Clarissa has aged out of foster care and is now studying biology at the University of Oregon. Her curiosity about how things work, from the human body to ecosystems, drives her passion for science. Growing up in foster care, she found solace in books and school, which helped her feel in control of her life.

Clarissa is requesting an ice maker for her home because her landlord has refused to pay for the necessary water line to connect the ice maker in her freezer. She was not informed that this would be an issue when she moved in, and she is now frustrated that she cannot have ice readily available for her daily needs. Clarissa's body tends to run hot, making ice in her drinks important for helping her cool down and regulate her system. Without access to ice at home, this has become an ongoing and unexpected challenge that impacts her comfort and well-being.

"Thank you so much for getting me an ice maker. I didn’t know when I moved in that my freezer’s ice maker wouldn’t work because my landlord won’t pay for the water line, and it’s honestly been really frustrating. Having ice at home is a bigger deal for me than people might think, my body runs hot a lot, so ice in my drinks helps me cool down and feel okay . Thank you for helping me with something that really affects my well-being."
