A baby swing for Sierra who is preparing to welcome her new baby
Sierra, 20 years old, OR

The Lost & Found InstituteSierra entered foster care at just 10 years old after her mother passed away, a loss that changed the course of her childhood overnight. She moved between placements, carrying grief, confusion, and the pressure to grow up faster than most kids her age. Over time, she learned how to adapt to new homes, new schools, and new rules. However, what she wanted most was consistency and someone she could count on. These experiences shaped her into a person who is deeply protective of the people she loves and determined to create the kind of stability she didn’t always have. Today, Sierra is a devoted single mother who structures her life around ensuring her children feel safe, supported, and cared for. She works hard to provide financially while also being emotionally present for her kids. In the midst of parenting and working, Sierra attends college part-time, studying business management. She chose this path intentionally because she wants long-term security, the opportunity to advance in her career, and eventually the chance to own and run her own business. School isn’t easy with long shifts and parenting responsibilities, but she perseveres through late nights and early mornings because she knows that education can open doors she once couldn’t see.
As Sierra prepares to welcome her baby, she is doing everything she can to get ready while balancing work, parenting, and college classes. With a new baby on the way and limited resources, she’s thoughtfully gathering the essentials that will help her create a safe and manageable routine once the baby arrives. One item that would make a meaningful difference for her family is a baby swing — a secure place where her newborn can rest comfortably while she cooks meals, helps her other children, or studies for school. Sierra is specifically hoping for a swing that both swings and vibrates because the motion and gentle vibration can soothe babies and help them settle when they’re fussy. Having that extra support would allow her to keep her baby close, calm, and safe while she handles daily responsibilities, giving her small moments to breathe and stay organized during a big life transition. She is asking for help obtaining this item so she can better care for her newborn while continuing to work toward stability and a brighter future for her family.
