David and his three younger siblings were removed from their home and placed in separate foster homes. Previously, David had been the primary caregiver for his siblings, so he was extremely upset about their separation. However, David has come to terms with the circumstances that led to their placement in foster care. He has not allowed the upheaval in his life to deter him from his goal of graduating. Although he worries about his siblings, he understands that they are all safe and no longer homeless.

David will turn 19 next month and is looking forward to celebrating his birthday with his family, whom he hasn't seen in several years. He attends the local community college and works part-time at McDonald's. Currently, he is signed up for an Independent Living program and is doing well. David has made special plans for his birthday, including going to dinner and hanging out at the beach with his family. He asked for a new pair of tennis shoes as a birthday gift, as he wants to look his best when he reunites with his biological family. After spending most of his birthdays moving between different foster homes, this celebration means a lot to him. Purchasing the shoes would be a wonderful gift, and it would make David very happy.
