Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach CountyJK has been in foster care for most of his life. He has been estranged from his family, so peer socialization has been his way of connecting with others. He has been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and struggles with transitions. He loves to play video games, hangout with friends, and play basketball. Electronics have always been a huge interest in JK socializing with his peers.
JK has been in foster care for most of his life and is now a young adult in extended foster care. Living with autism has made it harder for him to build and keep social connections. For JK, electronics have been an important way to stay in touch with other people and feel connected. He recently moved to a new placement and is still adjusting, which can be a stressful and lonely time for him. Having a cell phone would really help him stay connected with friends, reduce feelings of isolation, and make this transition a little easier. JK especially likes iPhones and has used one before, so he already knows how to use it. Having a similar phone again would feel familiar and make it easier for him to keep in contact with others who matter to him.
