Joellen was the subject of emotional abuse, general neglect, and caretaker absence after she attempted suicide. Her mother never returned to pick her up from the hospital after the suicide attempt, and she was placed into protective custody. Her mother and father are estranged after repeated domestic violence incidents. Joellen is doing better now, is very involved in school activities, and is dually enrolled in college and high school. She is actively participating in therapy and says she is feeling much more optimistic about her future.

Joellen is a bright and active girl who is finishing high school and plans to attend college to major in behavioral science. She has already earned 12 college credits. Currently, she borrows a laptop from the school district for her schoolwork, but she needs her own laptop to succeed in her studies. Therefore, she is requesting a Chromebook to further her studies.
