Jason, 9 years old, MO

Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption AssociationJason is an adventurous and curious boy who loves spending time outdoors. Whether he’s fishing, exploring along the river, or searching for small creatures, he enjoys discovering everything nature has to offer. He has a natural sense of curiosity and loves learning about the world around him through hands-on experiences. Jason was removed from his biological home due to severe neglect and drug exposure. During an attempted reunification, authorities discovered ongoing unsafe conditions in the home, including active drug use and unsafe supervision. Jason later tested positive for meth and fentanyl and spent 30 days hospitalized before entering foster care. He has faced many challenges at a young age, but he continues to show remarkable resilience and strength. Despite his difficult experiences, Jason maintains a positive attitude and finds joy in the simple things around him. He thrives when he’s outside, turning everyday moments into new adventures. Exploring nature gives him a sense of peace, excitement, and accomplishment. His curiosity, love of the outdoors, and positive spirit make him a bright and active child who is always eager for his next discovery.
Jason wishes for a kayak so he can enjoy float trips and spend more time outdoors with his family. Jason is currently placed in a Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) home and attends a Discovery School, where he receives additional behavioral and emotional support. He has experienced significant trauma and continues working through challenges with anger and emotional regulation. His foster placement is focused on helping him build confidence, strengthen emotional regulation skills, and develop healthy social relationships in a safe and supportive environment. A kayak would provide Jason with a positive outlet that encourages physical activity, confidence-building, and family connection. Kayaking is an activity that genuinely excites him and offers opportunities to safely participate in group activities while learning new skills. He loves being on the water, exploring nature, spotting wildlife, and spending time with his family. Having his own kayak would allow him to enjoy these experiences more often while creating meaningful memories with those who care about him. More than just a recreational activity, kayaking would give Jason a healthy way to cope with stress, experience success, build self-esteem, and focus on positive experiences. It would support his emotional growth and provide opportunities for healing as he continues to overcome the effects of the trauma and instability he has endured.
