Voices for Children - San DiegoHaven and her two younger brothers were removed from the care of their parents in 2022 following a severe car accident during which all three children were seriously injured. Haven's youngest brother suffered a traumatic brain injury during the accident, which left him permanently disabled. Subsequent to the car accident, Haven's father, the driver, fled the state and has not been located. Haven's mother has continued to struggle with addiction and is currently in prison for multiple trafficking related drug offenses. Haven and her brothers were fortunately placed with an amazing foster family who has two children of their own. Haven says even though she knows the foster family is not her blood, they show more care for her and her brothers than anyone in their lives ever has, and she hopes to live with them forever.
Haven is a child who doesn't ask for much, and when she does make a rare request, it is usually for one of her younger brothers. Her teachers describe her as kind, fun-loving, polite, and deeply empathetic. They note that Haven is often the first student in class to recognize when someone is sad, hurt, or struggling, and she will do everything she can to help or cheer them up. Haven and three of her classmates will all have birthdays in May and have arranged a birthday meetup at SeaWorld. While Haven seems excited about this outing, she is also nervous because she knows that her foster family may struggle to afford the ticket. Her birthday wish is to receive a ticket to SeaWorld so she can enjoy a carefree and fun day with her friends.
