A rotating car seat for Leah who sometimes has seizures

Leah, 1 year old, OH

Leah came into foster care after spending a month in the hospital due to unexplained injuries. Due to these injuries the medical staff anticipates that Leah will have severe global neurodevelopmental impairments. She was placed in a loving foster home where she has been able to thrive and have her medical needs met. She is a happy and sweet girl.

Leah has complex medical needs who would greatly benefit from the use of a rotating car seat to ensure her safety and support her daily care. She has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, global developmental delay, and neuro-irritability, and she currently participates in therapy services four times per week. In addition, she experiences seizures, which can occur unpredictably and require immediate attention. A rotating car seat would provide significant safety benefits by allowing caregivers quicker and easier access to her in the event of a seizure or other medical emergency while in the vehicle. The ability to rotate the seat toward the caregiver reduces response time and improves positioning to safely assist her. She also relies on a feeding tube for nutrition and receives medications three times daily through the tube. A rotating seat would make it much easier and safer to administer feeds and medications while in the car, minimizing strain on the caregiver and reducing the need for awkward or potentially unsafe positioning. Given her medical complexity and ongoing care needs, a rotating car seat would not only improve convenience but is a necessary support to enhance her safety, accessibility, and overall quality of care during transportation.
