Nik is a curious boy living in a foster placement. He enjoys creating things with Legos, drawing in his journal, and engaging in arts and crafts. Nik loves being outdoors, whether he’s riding his bike or exploring his new backyard, which includes a farm with many animals. He likes researching various aspects of his environment and investigating how things work. Nik is adapting to life in a low-tech home and finding alternative ways to occupy his time. He has moved between several foster homes, most recently changing homes three times within just a few months. The staff at his school became specially licensed to support him when they learned he needed to switch homes. Both of his parents have maintained a strong relationship with Nik, making the transition to a new home less stressful for everyone involved.

Nik sometimes needs a break to help calm his body. His team has noticed that he seeks different forms of sensory input and output, and they plan to make an OT referral for additional support. In the meantime, the team — including Nik — would like to try a weighted blanket during his reset times to see if it helps him feel calmer and more regulated when he is experiencing frustration or anger.
