Shelby is currently in an Independent Living arrangement after having lived in multiple foster homes throughout her life. Although she was nearly adopted once, forming connections and bonding with others has always been a challenge for her. Due to her past trauma, Shelby struggles with trust, which has been compounded by her separation from her biological brothers and limited contact with them. Despite these difficulties, Shelby has made significant progress over the past year. She has excelled in school, embraced her independent living program, and actively participates in group sessions to help her grow as a person. When she faces challenges, Shelby reaches out to her natural supports, showing remarkable strength and independence. Her journey reflects her resilience and determination to become a better version of herself.

Shelby recently signed herself back into extended foster care, secured her own apartment, and started a new job—big steps toward independence that she’s worked hard for. At this time, Shelby does not have a driver’s license or any reliable transportation, but she is determined to get herself to work on her own. She would truly love to have a bike of her own so she can get back and forth to work consistently and safely. Having a bike would make a real difference for Shelby as she builds stability, independence, and confidence in this new chapter of her life.
