Building Resilience TogetherJosiah entered foster care at the age of 4, though he had been involved with the child welfare system as early as age 1. Throughout his childhood, he experienced significant loss and instability. His mother passed away when he was 9 years old, and his father died when he turned 18. Originally a dependent of California's foster care system, Josiah moved to Mississippi upon turning 18, where he ultimately aged out of foster care. After his emancipation, Josiah faced numerous challenges as he navigated adulthood without a support system. Between the ages of 18 and 24, he experienced periods of incarceration and struggled to find stability. On his 24th birthday, he was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in significant injuries, including the placement of a metal rod in his left humerus. Josiah continues to work on building a stable future for himself. He does not have connections or support from his biological family or former foster placements and has had to navigate much of adulthood on his own. Despite the hardships he has endured, Josiah remains committed to moving forward, rebuilding his life, and creating opportunities for long-term success and independence.
