Fostering KindnessAndrew entered foster care two years ago after it was discovered that he was a victim of human trafficking. Legally blind and having been victimized by his own parents, Andrew is still struggling to trust caregivers and friends. He currently lives in a wonderful group home that offers plenty of community involvement, but he prefers to spend time alone, listening to music and learning about electronics and technology. He is fascinated by how things work and hopes to one day work in the tech industry. Andrew is exceptionally bright.
Andrew recently received an older-generation Apple Watch that works wonderfully, and he is absolutely thrilled with it, as it helps him better understand the world around him. However, the phone he has been using with the watch is outdated and doesn’t offer the support he needs. With special apps designed for the iPhone 15 that cater to the visually impaired, Andrew is eager to upgrade his technology, as having an iPhone would enable him to utilize his Apple Watch to communicate more effectively and gain a clearer insight into his surroundings. He has discovered that by holding his phone close to his face, he can read and view images, as long as they are large enough on the screen, and the larger the phone’s display, the better it is for him. Being a blind teenager comes with its own challenges, and living in a group home while attending public school adds another layer of complexity; fortunately, Andrew has learned to rely on technology to navigate and adapt to the ever-changing world around him, empowering him to overcome these obstacles.
