Building Resilience TogetherJosiah entered foster care at the age of 4, having already been involved with the child welfare system since he was just 1. His childhood was marked by significant loss and instability, with the passing of his mother when he was 9 and his father when he turned 18. After aging out of California's foster care system, he moved to Mississippi, where he faced numerous challenges navigating adulthood without a support system. Between the ages of 18 and 24, he experienced periods of incarceration and struggled to find stability. On his 24th birthday, a serious car accident left him with significant injuries, including a metal rod being placed in his left humerus. Despite lacking connections with his biological family or former foster placements, Josiah remains determined to rebuild his life and create opportunities for long-term success and independence.
Josiah is requesting assistance with obtaining a new laptop to support his education. His previous laptop was recently damaged in an accident and is no longer functional, creating a significant barrier to completing assignments, accessing online coursework, conducting research, and staying current with his classes. As a student, reliable access to technology is essential for communicating with instructors, participating in virtual learning opportunities, and successfully managing academic responsibilities. Providing Josiah with a laptop would help reduce this barrier and allow him to continue progressing toward his educational goals while working toward greater stability. In addition to his academic needs, Josiah is actively seeking long-term housing. Access to a reliable laptop would also support this process.
