Laye is a bright, beautiful young girl who carries herself with a maturity beyond her years, though she sometimes struggles to manage and process her emotions. She recently experienced a difficult family change. Her father, whom her and her mother were living with, moved out after her mother chose to dedicate her life to her faith as a Jehovah's Witness, a path he did not agree with. Just two months later, he married another woman and has done nothing for Laye. This has left Laye feeling deeply hurt and betrayed, as she continues to navigate the pain of this unexpected loss.

Laye recently went through a traumatic experience, and as she works to heal, her mother made the difficult decision to quit her job to be fully present and support her through it. With school approaching, Laye is in need of new clothes, but her family's limited resources make that difficult right now. Having clothes of her own would give Laye a sense of normalcy, comfort, and confidence as she goes back to school, offering a small but meaningful piece of stability during a challenging time in her life.
